Stay warm and check out this show!An amazing show opening for the awesome Sarah Brokke is happening TOMORROW night at Prøve Collective! Check it out ✨✨✨ 👇 Where? Gallery/ 21 N Lake Ave When? Friday, January 17, 2020 Time? 7-10 p.m. What? Metamorphose, opening reception for Sarah Brokke On Friday, January 17, 2020 at 7 p.m., Prøve Gallery will host the opening of Metamorphose in their exhibition and performance space, located in historic downtown Duluth at 21 N. Lake Ave. Featuring new works by local painter Sarah Brokke, Metamorphose is an exhibit that extrudes the sacred from dreams and everyday existence. Through veils and intricate patterns of saturated color, each work reveals narratives of vulnerability and strength. In Metamorphose, Brokke creates lush, colorful compositions that blend corporeal, natural, and abstract imagery in her characteristically lyrical style. Her paintings feature women subjects in fantastical and surreal landscapes. Images of trees, water, animals, veins, hearts, and hands recur over and over, as the artist constructs a personal mythology. In Brokke’s poetic canvases, her subjects find liberation from the dominant kyriarchal strictures that would bind and control them. Weaving visual narratives that connect to her own identity and those of her subjects, their lives, and traumas, Brokke seeks to “cultivate vulnerable spaces of ritual, reflection, and growth.” A predominantly figural painter, Brokke engages with themes of the historical and contemporary relevance of portraiture, the representation of self, gender roles, relationships, and identity. Brokke is the Director of the Art Department at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth. She has exhibited extensively throughout the region. Join Prøve Gallery on Friday, January 17 from 7 - 10 p.m. for the opening reception. The exhibition will be on view through February 21, 2020. Music at the reception will be provided by Nate Mattson. Regular gallery hours are Wednesdays through Fridays, 4-7 p.m. and Saturdays, 12-4 p.m. The exhibition is generously supported by the members & friends of Prøve Gallery. Operating support is also made possible in part by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council, thanks to legislative appropriations from the arts and cultural heritage funds. ...
